Millie Bobby Brown has responded to fans’ concerns about her evolving accent, explaining her approach to language adaptation in a recent interview.
During a conversation with internet personality Max Balegde about her new Netflix film Damsel, Brown addressed comments from fans who noticed a shift in her accent, particularly after her appearance on The Tonight Show.
“As an actor, I adapt to different environments,” Brown, 20, explained in a TikTok video. “Growing up in the public eye and in America, I naturally mimic the accents of those around me. It’s not intentional, and I apologize if it offends anyone. I’m simply trying my best.”
Balegde playfully supported Brown, presenting her with a gift card for the British fast food chain Nando’s to humorously reinforce her identity in case her accent sparks questions again.
Brown’s accent has been a topic of discussion among fans, especially after her recent appearances where she predominantly spoke in an American accent. Despite being born to British parents and spending her childhood in England before moving to the United States, Brown’s accent has noticeably shifted over time.
Some fans have expressed surprise and nostalgia over the transformation, recalling Brown’s stronger British accent in the past. However, Brown has previously acknowledged her accent evolution, attributing her ability to mimic accents to her exposure to American media, particularly shows like Hannah Montana.
“I like to see characters, and then I just do the accent,” Brown explained during a previous appearance on The Tonight Show. “As long as I’ve watched it for long enough, I can kind of get it to somewhat of a T.”
As Brown continues to navigate her acting career and international fame, her ability to adapt to different accents reflects her versatility as an actor.
