Known for his memorable portrayal of Lt. Jake “Hangman” Seresin in the 2022 box office sensation, Powell was quizzed about any insights he could share regarding his potential return to the franchise alongside Tom Cruise and Miles Teller. In response, the 35-year-old actor humorously remarked, “That is all classified.”

“Top Gun: Maverick” marked a triumphant return to the skies for Cruise’s iconic character, Navy officer Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, more than three decades after the original film’s release. Powell’s role as Lt. Jake Seresin, alongside Teller’s Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, garnered widespread acclaim in the long-awaited sequel, which surpassed $1.5 billion in global box office earnings.

With rumors circulating about a third installment in the beloved military aviation series, Powell’s involvement remains uncertain. Speculation arose after reports surfaced that screenwriter Ehren Kruger, credited on “Maverick,” was collaborating on the new project. The potential sequel, helmed by “Maverick” director Joseph Kosinski, could see the reunion of Cruise, Powell, and Teller, promising an electrifying continuation of the saga.

While Powell and Teller previously hinted at discussions about another movie, Powell emphasized that the final decision rests with Cruise and the production team. Despite the uncertainty, Powell expressed his eagerness to reprise his role, declaring, “If they call me back to Miramar, I’ll be there.”

In the meantime, fans can catch Powell’s upcoming project, “Hit Man,” set to premiere on Netflix on June 7, with a limited theatrical release anticipated before its streaming debut. As the speculation surrounding the Top Gun franchise continues to soar, Powell remains grounded, ready to embark on any new adventures that come his way.
